Happy New Year, 2015!  Christmas has passed, and we are already a week into the new year, but Eggnog is still lingering in the refrigerated sections at the grocery store.  If you're like me, you are not quite ready to call it quits on this holiday season.  I like to savor the season until..

..well, until the next season.

Eggnog is either a love it or dislike it kind of deal.  However, there is no denying that it is a holiday season staple, and whether or not on everyone's beverage list, should be present at every party, brunch, and gathering.  Hey, some even like to spike it with booze.

While creating a recipe with the Straus Creamery products {one because they're so fresh, and two because they're so delicious} I was looking for something that I had never had before, nor had anyone else.

Eggnog is not just for dinner and dessert.  It is now appropriately served for breakfast in my newest
 Breakfast Nog.

When I tasted this eggnog by Straus Family Creamery {http://strausfamilycreamery.com/}, immediately I noticed the smooth, creamy texture and the freshest smell and taste.  This is better than any other nog I had ever tasted!

Next, the yogurt I chose was an organic, nonfat European style yogurt by Straus.  I had to choose between European and Greek style.  In the end, European style won because I wanted a looser yogurt to work with while creating a new recipe.

Ultimately, I wanted to make a slightly healthier eggnog beverage to enjoy which would include the probiotic benefits of yogurt and the holiday cheer of nog!

Breakfast Nog Recipe
  • Organic Eggnog {Straus Family Creamery}
  • Euro Style Organic Nonfat Yogurt {Straus Family Creamery}
  • nutmeg/cinnamon for garnish
  • dried cranberries

Start with your eggnog, and add 2T of yogurt, mix and taste.  See how tangy it is, or if you want a bit more.  Adjust to taste, and enjoy!  Sprinkle with some fresh, ground nutmeg, or ground cinnamon for an extra special touch.
Serve with dried cranberries, or go bold and add some inside your drink.

These would also be delicious in shooter glasses for an appetizer-style buffet or tasting party.

"About Straus Family Creamery
Straus Family Creamery (SFC) is a Northern California, certified organic, artisan creamery offering cream-top milk, European-style and Greek yogurt, butter, ice cream, sour cream and a variety of wholesale and specialty dairy products, which are distributed in California and up and down the West Coast.
Always a pioneer, in 1994, the Straus family dairy was the first to be certified organic in the Western United States. In 2010, the Straus Family Creamery became the first creamery in the nation to be Non-GMO Project Verified.

Straus Family Creamery bases business decisions upon environmental and ecological considerations, grounded in sustainable, organic family farming. This is for the health and well-being of the company, farmers, employees and the community it serves.

Artisan Dairy Craft
Gently pasteurized organic milk: SFC’s certified organic milk is pasteurized using the High-Temperature, Short-Time (HTST) method, which destroys all bacteria that are harmful to health, but keeps our products as fresh-tasting and flavorful as possible.
Butter, made in small batches: The certified organic European-style butter is made in an old-fashioned 1950s butter churn and has a very high butterfat content of 85-87%.
Non-homogenized milk: SFC does not homogenize its cream-top milk, in order to leave the milk as close as possible to its natural state.
Minimally processed without any additives: No additives or stabilizers are ever used in any of the yogurts or ice creams, leaving them pure and great tasting.
Vat-Set, European-style Yogurt: The yogurt and sour cream products are incubated in stainless-steel vats, not in a plastic cup. They are first cooled before being poured into their containers.

Commitment to Sustainability:
Straus Family Creamery has a wide range of sustainable practices that aim to preserve organic integrity, reduce the carbon footprint, support family farms and take responsibility for what is happening in local communities and in the food system at large.
From the very beginning in 1994, Straus Family Creamery has been bottling its cream-top, organic milk in reusable glass bottles. With a return rate of more than 80% and an average reuse of 4-6 times, this system is good for the environment as it keeps waste out of landfills.

At the Straus dairy, electricity is made from cow manure, by using a methane digester, which turns methane gas, a part of manure, into electricity. The digester creates enough renewable energy to power the entire dairy, to charge Albert Straus’ electric car and to feed some electricity back into the grid. Poop to power, so to speak.
Water is a very precious resource, in the midst of the California drought, more than ever. The creamery uses a system that allows the reuse of ALL wastewater from the creamery at the Straus dairy, where it is used to flush barns, help with the generation of renewable energy through a methane digester, and for irrigation of pastures.

Straus Family Creamery has always taken a strong stand on GMOs, believing that they have no place in farming or in our food system, and that GMOs pose a threat to the land and to family farms. In 2010, Straus Family Creamery became the first creamery in the US to verify all our participating farms as Non-GMO Project Verified."
